When you are travelling with the kids, things can be expensive, so it is a good idea to get good value for money when you are looking for family days out in London.
Whilst some London attractions are free, there will be times when you may want to take advantage of paid for attractions like the London Eye for its spectacular views and so to get the best from your day out in London, try to mix things up a bit for a great all round experience.
Some of the best free London visitor attractions are the museums. Not all museums are stuffy institutions, there is lots for the kids to enjoy to enjoy. The British Museum has a great selection of Egyptian Mummies (kids love this stuff and you can give them a quick history lesson at the same time). The British museum is situated in the Bloomsbury area of London and is not too far from Oxford Street shopping district.
Alternatives to this are seeing the dinosaur exhibit at the National History Museum or the visiting the Science Museum which has a little something for everyone, with space exhibits and interactive attractions showing kids how things work.
The Science museum and the Natural History museum are both located in the Kensington area of London, and so for a tagged on shopping trip, Harrods would be your best bet, with Harvey Nichols not far away.
Once you are done with museums you could then try visiting the Tower of London and then the Tower bridge exhibition. Take a lift (or elevator) and walk along the top of the bridge in an enclosed glass walkway for some of the very best views of the River Thames. When you come out (and if little ones are no so little), try the London Bridge Experience, it’s a great adventure under the catacombs of London Bridge with a history lesson thrown in for good measure. And at the very end there is a zombie chase in the dark. This London Bridge Experience is a good alternative to the London Dudgeon attraction, which is much more expensive.
If you have done the London Bridge experience and want something a little more relaxing, then try taking a relaxing walk along the Southbank back towards the London Eye. Here you will find an array of street performers to keep you entertained whilst you take in the views of the Thames and the Houses of Parliament across the way. Once you reach the London Eye, look towards the adjacent County Hall building, which houses the London Aquarium. And if the children are moaning after the walk, take them to Namco in the bottom of the County Hall building for traditional style amusement arcade experience.
